Can’t stop Christmas with Shopee’s Big Christmas Sale

Christmas lights everywhere, check. Christmas carols, check. A mild, chill breeze, check. A Gift List that gets longer as the days get shorter, check.

gift

Yes – it is officially Christmas in the Philippines. And while I love the Spirit of the Season and the gift giving the goes with it – there’s one thing that I hated with a passion during this time of the year: shopping.

I hated going to the malls and shopping during the Christmas season automatically turns me into the Grinch. Consider this ordeal: elbow to elbow with majority of the population, the long lines at the cashier, the ordeal of getting to the mall and trying to get home, an dealing with the traffic.

That’s why I am thankful that I get to discover online shopping – I loved the convenience of buying things for myself at the comfort of my own bedroom, and the wide payment options for my purchases. A lot of my purchases this year came from online shopping, including a last-minute purchase comprised of a children’s luggage, which I bought from Shopee, roughly a week before we leave for a family trip. I was apprehensive but–lo and behold — Shopee and the merchant came through and my niece has her Disney princess luggage.

That’s why I was elated to know that  Shopee will have an upcoming  upcoming Christmas sale, kicking off with the much-awaited “11.11 – 12.12 Big Christmas Sale,” coinciding with the introduction of their latest brand ambassador, Mr. Jose Mari Chan.

JMC

JMC + SHOPEE = CHRISTMAS

If you’re born and raised in the Philippines, you would know that highly-respected balladeer Mr. Jose Mari Chan is the official face (and sound) of Christmas for the locals. The Christmas celebration in the Philippines officially begins as soon as his well-loved song “Christmas in our Hearts” starts dominating in the airwaves – yes, even if it’s still October.  So, it’s really a genius move by Shopee to bring in JMC to usher in Christmas and their biggest Christmas sale this year.

Terence Pang, Chief Operating Officer at Shopee, said, “Christmas is the most celebrated holiday in the Philippines, and Filipino shoppers are known to start their holiday shopping earlier. In line with this, we are once again bringing back Shopee 11.11 – 12.12 Big Christmas Sale, this time with an even bigger lineup of promotions. We are also honored to have Jose Mari Chan, a household name in the Philippines, join us as our first official Christmas ambassador. Jose Mari Chan embodies the Christmas spirit, and his positive and cheery personality reflects Shopee’s commitment to bringing more joy to shoppers this year-end season.”

“Christmas is a time for us to come together and celebrate. I am thrilled to be joining the Shopee family to spread cheer to all Filipinos this festive season, and to be part of Shopee’s first ever Christmas television commercial. I welcome everyone to join Shopee and I in kickstarting the Christmas season with Shopee 11.11 – 12.12 Big Christmas Sale, and look forward to collaborating with Shopee to deliver a series of surprises this Christmas,” said Jose Mari Chan.

In line with the appointment of Jose Mari Chan as Shopee’s Christmas Ambassador is the launch of the Jose Mari Chan Road to Christmas campaign, which will take place from October 26 to December 12. With this, Jose Mari Chan fans can look forward to a series of exciting Shopee activations with him in the weeks ahead, including once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as the opportunity to sing a duet with him, receive a special dedicated song from him, or to meet and spend time with him on his Shopee Wish Bus tour.

The debut of Jose Mari Chan as Shopee’s Christmas ambassador marks the official start of Shopee 11.11 – 12.12 Big Christmas Sale. The first wave of promotions started last October 26 leading up to the 11.11 Big Christmas Sale happening on 11 November. Users can look forward to discounts of up to 99% off all categories, daily free shipping promotions, and an upsized coins pool of over 11 million Shopee Coins to be won from Shopee Shake.

SHOPPING GALORE

To ensure that its clients will get the best deals leading to Christmas, Shopee sweetened the deal even further by partnering with leading local and international brands including Maybelline, P&G, Mossimo, Unilever, Wyeth, Platinum Karaoke, ASUS, and Unisilver Time, and many more; shoppers can also look forward to additional perks, presented in collaboration with Shopee’s exclusive 11.11 partners.

“With tons of unbeatable promotions and exciting features launched in response to users’ feedback and demands, Shopee 11.11 – 12.12 Big Christmas Sale is a showcase of Shopee’s continued commitment to delivering the best online shopping experience to consumers in the region, especially during this festive holiday season. We invite everyone to shop together on Shopee 11.11 – 12.12 Big Christmas Sale,” closed Pang.

COINS MADNESS

Shopee is bringing back its iconic in-app game, Shopee Shake, this time with an upsized pool of over 11 million Shopee Coins up for grabs. As a special treat this Christmas season, users will also stand a chance to win surprise Shopee Shake prizes, including roundtrip tickets to Australia, Malaysia, and Japan sponsored by Cebu Pacific. Shopee Shake will be happening twice daily, and nine times on 11.11 Shopee Shake Day on November 3 and 11.11 Big Christmas Sale on November 11.

I would probably do the bulk of my Christmas shopping at Shopee, given that I really do not have the time nor the patience to go the malls. Am starting the shopping madness on the 11th, along with the bulk of the population who have no chill when it comes to the gift giving season.

I visited the site a while back and instantly regretted it (in a good way)! There were so many great things to buy — at very affordable prices that I had to reined in the shopping fiend that I have become! I bought a really nice dress for work and are just waiting for it to be shipped – take note, payment is via COD!

Shopee has really upped the ante and doing amazing with exciting promos and discounts for its growing market! With this, I just can’t wait for their 11.11 event – surely, it will be something great!

Shopee aims to reach more Pinoy online shoppers; now the second leading online shop for App Store and Google Play

The advent of the internet has given rise to a lot of shopping sites. While each one has their own merits, we can’t deny that the idea behind each one is the same: to make online buying and selling a lot easier, convenient and safer to Filipinos.

One of the emerging online marketplace is Shopee, which connects buyers and sellers and features a unique in-app facility allowing buyer and seller to communicate even before the purchase of a product commences. By doing this, any type of misunderstanding or miscommunication is lessened or even eliminated all together.

The shopping site recently celebrated a milestone after it has reached the number 2 spot in the Shopping category for both the App Store and Google Play in the Philippines only one year after launch. Shopee’s ratings have also been consistently high, reaching 5 stars in the App Store and 4.3 stars in Google Play, which shows that Filipino users have been continuously satisfied with the services and features offered by Shopee. Since its launch last December 2015, Shopee has shown significant business growth. In the Philippines, Shopee now has over 1 million products listed and over 3 million downloads.

Shopee marked the milestone with a get-together with bloggers and partner sellers where the site promised to be more bullish in reaching more customers.

“We experienced overwhelming growth in the past year and we are constantly improving all aspect of our business to cater to the increasing demands of our users. Our main commitment has always been to provide the best experience to our buyers and sellers,” shared Macy Castillo, Shopee’s Head of Commercial Business.

Another helpful feature is Shopee Guarantee, where payments are held in escrow until buyers receive their products. This makes buying online safer, gaining highly positive reviews from loyal and satisfied Filipino customers.

Recently Shopee announced that it will be the first mobile shopping platform in the Philippines to offer both buyers and sellers Free Shipping and Cash on Delivery (COD) nationwide.

“Because of the program’s success with selected sellers last year, we decided to expand our Free Shipping and COD service, enabling a larger number of our sellers to attract even more customers from over 900 cities and municipalities in the country, especially outside Metro Manila,” adds Castillo.

It’s time to share Christmas shopping as Lazada offers biggest online sale

If there’s one thing I hate about Christmas, it’s the frantic shopping and trying to find gifts in a middle of a crowded store. Shopping during Christmas is like being part of a Jolly Hunger Games – usually a mass of people after the same stuff, harassed and grumpy on the way to the cashiers.

Thus, the birth of online shops have become a blessing and a convenient excuse to indulge for people like me who has aversion to the combination of  large crowds and shopping malls during the holidays.

To sweeten the deal, the country’s number one online shopping destination Lazada Philippines had announced the launch of the Lazada Online Revolution Sale which is set to be the biggest online Christmas sale of the year. The month-long sale kicks off on November 11 and will run until December 12 – just in time to fill up your Christmas tree and scratch every name out of your Christmas list.

In Chinese culture, the date November 11 or 11/11 is popularly known as “Singles’ Day”, a day to celebrate singlehood. E-commerce retailers in China have turned this holiday into the world’s biggest online shopping event, selling over US$9 billion worth of products last year. In 2013, Lazada introduced the 11/11 Online Revolution Sale in the Philippines to mark the start of the Christmas shopping season and has since then set online sales records each year.
This year, Lazada Philippines expects to break new records as it anticipates over 2 million visits to its website and mobile app on 11/11. Big brands and merchants will join the sale and are bringing in over 200,000 marked-down deals up to 95% off across 13 product categories including electronics, fashion, kids & toys, and home.

If you are on the look out for items to give yourself and every name on your list, you can choose from exclusive items on flash sales and P99 peso deals will also be revealed on 11/11. Brands that have confirmed their participation in the sale include ASUS, Lenovo, Alcatel, Cherry Mobile, Bosch, Belo, Huggies, Mamy Poko, Timex and Giordano watches.

As an early treat for Lazada fans and shoppers, special items will be available to purchase at only P11 each. Lazada bestsellers such as Sandisk 8GB flash drives, 5600 mAH Powerbank, and 4-layer shoe racks will be available to purchase at P11.00 starting today until 11/11. The P11.00 deals will be announced at 11:11am everyday on one of Lazada’s social media channels (Twitter: lazadaph, Facebook: lazadaph, Instagram: lazadaph).

“We have been working very hard together with our merchants and suppliers to bring these amazing deals to our customers. We believe that online shopping will provide a lot of convenience to shoppers especially during the holiday season. By shopping online, they can avoid heavy traffic, long lines and crowded areas,” said Lazada Philippines CEO, Inanc Balci.

Thoughts on owning homes and decorating your walls

One of my favorite hobbies  is to daydream about what my dream house would look like. I don’t have a house of my own yet — something that’s been a long-time dream and frustration of mine. Aside from blogging and calligraphy, I usually spend time visiting architecture and interior design sites to look for pegs for my future home. Some favorites include Architectural Digest, Real Living and Home & Design.

I think the dream of owning a home that is beautiful and unique and conforms to your personality is something inherent in everyone. I have tried getting in touch with a lot of home developers during the course of the years, always trying to dip my toe in finally taking the plunge and invest in real estate, only to get cold feet and back out the minute real estate agents start asking me to go on site trippings. So while I try to get my finances in order, I will continue to keep on looking for home design pegs until the day when I can finally have a home of my own.

A perfect home for me would look a lot like this:

One of my pet peeves is clutter. Since my mom loves to hoard stuff, I grew up with a lot of clutter and with various things and knick-knacks crammed on the various display shelves at home. I hated that. When I attend weddings or birthdays or Christenings, I usually pass on the souvenir if it’s a ceramic or would gather dust in two days–unless it’s something I can eat or use, I’d rather not get it. My reasoning is that being invited is already an honor and a privilege. I hate things that gather dust. One of the things I always tell the husband is that I am happy owning a home that is without any hint of clutter.

Right now, I make do with the small space that the hubby and I call our “little nest.” I try to arrange and clean it as much as possible, and possibly get rid of the clutter one-by-one. To live up walls, I try to put up some of Mike’s art works.

<excerpted from a press release>

The folks from Kaymu, an online marketing place from Rocket Internet, the same company behind online start-ups Lazada and Zalora has some recommendations in brightening up your home, starting from your wall:

  • Pep up your wall with old hats: A great way to spice up your wall is by adding your old hats to it. This way you can recycle and reuse your timeworn hats and create a distinct vibe by elegantly placing the hats to the wall. Without spending big bucks you can create an inspiring wall that will give your room a very posh look.
  • Hang a small and affordable rug: In the past hanging expensive tapestries on the walls was not only considered a sign of affluence, but it also created a luxurious ambiance. You can achieve the look by hanging a brightly colored rug to your wall, with this little modern twist you can style your wall without spending a hefty amount of money. All you have to do is purchase a spunky rug with bold motifs that go with the rest of décor of your room.
  • Just add some baskets and trays: If the wall looks too plain, you can simply add baskets and trays, which you no longer use, to create a hip ambiance. You can add cheap wicker trays for a more traditional look or vintage sweet grass baskets. You can experiment with different shapes and mix and match various baskets to create your very own personalized wall.
  • Add removable inexpensive wall art pieces: According to a survey, an increasing number of people are purchasing wall art like frames, posters and paper decals to decorate the walls in their home. You can also jazz up your wall by just adding some eccentric posters and frames. In my case, my husband and I loved to paint and do art pieces on our own. It’s very easy to make your own paintings (you can even go abstract!) plus have them framed to any mall-based framing company and voila! a unique art work that will surely make a good conversation piece.

Let the walls speak your mind, for your next wall decoration project take inspiration from these ideas or you can even come up with your own creative ideas to brighten up your home’s interior.

Understanding Affiliate Marketing with Lazada

Last June, I was given the opportunity by fast-growing online shopping haven, Lazada to be part of their Affiliate Marketing program via the “Shop-Till-You-Blog” Lifestyle blogger meet up. I have been blogging for a long time, first covertly, until I have decided to provide more meat to this site.

The blogger mixer with Lazada has opened my eyes to the wonders of affiliate marketing. As a marketing practitioner, I have seen the rise of non-traditional media, both in public relations and advertising, and how it has redefined the field of sales and promotion for brands everywhere. In fact, the company I work for–which shall remain anonymous–is not an exception. This year alone,  I have significantly shrunk my budget for traditional media in order to accommodate the changing landscape of digital marketing and social media promotion.

The best thing about how Lazada is presenting its affiliate marketing program is its hands-on approach to its affiliated marketers and blog sites. From cheat sheets and open communication with the bloggers and online authors, the disconnect between introducing an opportunity and putting it into practice is significantly reduced.

Being one of the site affiliates is easy:

Cheat Sheet_Lazada Affiliate

In my case, it’s the act of configuring everything in this site that took a long time.

Here’s the thing — I have a way with words but I absolutely suck when it comes to configuring the nuts and bolts of this site to make it more meaty and more independent from WordPress. I have been meaning to find an independent hosting site for this blog and it’s something that I wish to tick off my long to-do list before the year ends.

The downtime tonight finally gave me the opportunity to really study the HasOffers guide generously provided by Lazada and tinker with the blog at the same time. It’s a hit and miss process, but something that can be easily learned once you get the hang of it.

The appeal of online shopping and affiliate marketing

Considering how busy people are nowadays — it’s heaven-sent that people can buy stuff on the net, on their down time and have it delivered to their doorstep. What’s even better? If you can pay for it in cash – upon delivery, without you being paranoid about sharing your personal and financial information online. This is the appeal of online shopping sites like Lazada.

I need new brogues? perfume for the husband? a waist trimmer? a frickin’ cat collar after the cat developed skin allergies? Everything ordered via Lazada. It’s fast, cheap and painless — I have actually managed to buy stuff while dressing up for work.

The best thing about online shopping sites is that everything’s basically there, from clothes, to gadgets, laptops and tablets sometimes selling to as much as 50% off? Everything’s there. The only scary thing is having to control your shopping tendencies.

Affiliate marketing provides people opportunities, regardless if they are work-at-home moms or working professionals or online influencers who could use the extra revenue. In a world like today where lines between traditional and non-traditional media and advertising channels have become one massive blur, it’s comforting to note that there are opportunities to earn more minus the need of having more time or more financial resources to augment your income. The advent of affiliate marketing opens the opportunity to become an advertising channel not only to recognized platforms like televisions or print or radio broadcast. It provides a more level playing field for everyone. Suddenly, with this technology, everyone can be both an information medium and advertising platform.
