Lights, and inspiration

Me and my husband’s first overseas trip will always be special since we really saved our money just to make it possible. Since we are on a tight budget, we decided to forgo the much-dreamed-of Disneyland trip. We said, “Maybe next time…for now, let’s make our own adventure”.

After discovering the nooks and crannies of Hong Kong, we ended up at the “Symphony of Lights” show. It was our second day, our budget fast dwindling, yet our camera was already overflowing with memories. Standing there, waiting for the show to begin, we were simply amazed on how beautiful the Hong Kong Harbour was–bathed in lights, a sampan or two softly floating in the silent waters.

It was simply too beautiful, too magical for words.

Seeing the lights reflected in the genteel waters, pulsing along with the music, it was like realizing that the best travel experiences were not often those we expect. Symphony of Lights reminded us that the best adventures come with experiences you rarely expect. Here we are–married for a barely a year–traversing a foreign country, relying on one another for protection and guidance, and with not much money on our pocket. So while the music plays and the narration delivered in flawless Mandarin (yes! of all the shows available, we chanced upon the Mandarin-dubbed one), the Hubby and I talked about our dreams, and toasted each other for a job-well done for our first overseas trip alone.

Until now, we look back at that moment with fondness–it was the moment where as the Lights danced, we found inspiration as travel buddies…and as partners for life.
