A new dawn begins today

At least for my country, the Philippines.
Today was the day when the 15th President of the Republic, Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III, was sworn into office.

The new president used to be a succession of of:
The only son of democracy icon Ninoy Aquino and former President Cory Aquino…
The older brother of media maven Kris Aquino…
The ex-boyfriend of numerous media personalities…
Former Senator of the Republic…

But now, he is the 15th President of the Philippines
And the perceived beacon of hope for a country that has long been suffering in self-made hell.

I agree that P-Noy (short for President Noy) is not the best in the senate or in the congress. Nor that he possessed the best record in the legislative. He may not be the most intelligent nor the most good looking. But when he ran the Presidential Elections with a platform based on good governance and rallied for a new Philippines — people took notice and voted for him.

I voted for him. But I do not have any grand delusions that he will change the Philippines overnight. I do not have any illusions that tomorrow, there’ll be no corruption, traffic, red tape, violence and poverty.

But I believe we can do something to change this country.
He maybe our leader–but the change we are looking for begins from within, from us.
